Inauguration new installation
The asphalted forecourt has been softened and transformed into a new green area. Here stands a large 'line' of 30 meters in stainless steel, representing the walking route between Antwerp and Lagos, where the artist resides. It's a path that connects countless communities.
The installation is a tribute to the various communities that have settled in Antwerp from around the world, each bringing their own culinary culture. To emphasize this intercultural connectedness, the artist has designed a garden of edible plant species where native Flemish crops grow alongside edible varieties popular in Lagos and elsewhere.
Smaller stainless steel structures serve as play structures for children, an audience the artist considers important in her practice.
For the inauguration, the artist collaborated with De Kompaan, a neighborhood kitchen from Borgerhout, serving soup for the visitors. First come, first served.
This work of art is part of the permanent sculpture trail On Sculpture, which also includes works from e.g. Kati Heck, Walter Swennen, Rémy Zaugg, Pierre Bimuth, Matt Mullican, Cerith Wyn Evans and Edith Dekyndt.
