More about this work
What happens when people come together to learn from each other? That is what Gosie Vervloessem, Leonardo Delogu and Carolina Mendonça aim to find out during a 30-day performance, in the company of eight guests.
Together they are organising a number of picnic performances, and you are kindly invited to join in. There, you’ll get the chance to share experiences and food. Together, all those present form a ‘monstrous’ being: something/someone who goes beyond ‘the norm’, a ‘super human’ being. This monstrous being in Monsters Assembly can also go beyond one individual and mutate towards or connect with something or someone else.
In the Monsters School, within a school-like structure, the participants exchange their expertise and learn from each other. They investigate new, more physical dynamics, replacing the traditional setup between teacher and student, such as siesta-reading sessions or yoga lessons.
As a school building, they use the Franchise Unit at Atelier Van Lieshout. The Dutch artist Joep van Lieshout made this pavilion for the Middelheim Museum as a common area, potentially to kick off a new free state.

In the Monsters School the programme is developed week by week. Some school activities are very accessible according to the announcements in the Franchise Unit at Atelier Van Lieshout, which is used temporarily as a classroom. Welcome!
