Don't miss the iconic Joan Jonas performances
Ready for one of the highlights of COME CLOSER? Experience two iconic performances by the equally iconic artist Joan Jonas in Performance Weekend #3 (August 3 and 4)!
Joan Jonas (1936, USA) has been a pioneer in video performance and more for 50 years, and she remains unrivaled to this day. Her groundbreaking performances from the '60s and '70s are still incredibly powerful and surprisingly relevant in 2024.
In her revolutionary work 'Mirror Piece I & II' from 1969, 15 performers carry large mirrors around. In today’s selfie culture, this historic performance takes on an extra layer of meaning. The more intimate 'Mirror Check' from 1970 complements this. In it, a woman examines her naked body with a hand mirror. Here too, it’s about looking and being looked at.
Both performances will be staged this weekend only (August 3 and 4) at the Middelheimmuseum. A unique opportunity to experience the work of this great artist live. Free entry. Not to be missed!
