More about this work
This new creation, which will be shown in première in DE SINGEL, is Anthea Hamilton’s most ambitious exploration of her sculptural and installation methods. As usual, the British artist uses diverse systems, codes and media beyond the traditions of visual art. With her characteristic dedication, Hamilton shapes all elements in the space (stage, audience, scenography, light, sound and time) into sculptural material that serves the performer.
Anthea Hamilton works on the cutting edge between installation, sculpture, film and performance. In her methods, she dives into the meandering history of visual and cultural production and she uses her eyes as both a subjective and productive lens through which she can see and reshape the world. Her works present an alternative and fragmented reality in which gender roles, sexuality, domestic life and different cultural traditions become fluid notions, rather than rusty clichés.
