Dennis Tyfus

Dennis Tyfus (1979) lives and works in Antwerp. With his anarchistic punk attitude he is often excluded from the official art circuit. The lines are blurred in his diverse oeuvre: including illustrations, sculptures, installations, performances, magazines, tattoos and vinyl. Many disciplines are combined in De Nor (2017) in the Middelheim Museum.

Dennis Tyfus' exhibitions include art space 1646, Den Haag; in Damtschach Castle, Austria (2014); The Zone, Easthampton, Massachusetts, VS (2014) and Kunstschlager, Reykjavik, Iceland (2013).

His record label Ultra Eczema, specialising in obscure underground bands, has become his multi-medial artistic outlet. Each edition is given a new serial number.

With his noise project, Vom Grill in 2011, Tyfus was the supporting act for Sonic Youth’s Kim Gordon. He worked as editor of the alternative artists-zine Rotkop, organised Nightmares events and is known for his No Choice Tattoos.

De Nor, 2018

Sculpture, long loan for Middelheim Museum Collection

Dennis Tyfus describes De Nor (2018) as a social sculpture. On this stage he organises concerts, performances and parties. Here the performers and the audience become one for a while. As a sculpture it is a reminder of those past moments, and a support that waits patiently for those still to come. As a spectator you can step on stage yourself, or observe other visitors from the gallery. Which role will you adopt?

Continuous viewing. Take a seat, or do your own performance on the stage at De Nor.
