In 2022, visual artist Stef Van Looverens’s first live performance Radical Hope - Eye to Eye was shown in première in DE SINGEL. A huge success, which continued in Munich’s Volkstheater and the Sophiensaele in Berlin. Radical Hope was a transgressive performance that sensitively challenged normative conclusions about gender and the body.
For their second live performance CONFESSIONS, Van Looveren goes solo. Using their body and a wide range of emotional and social phases, the layers of our identity are explored. Van Looveren’s work cannot be described in one word. It combines video with performance in sculptural installations. Their exploration of the body is inspired by a hybrid mix of elements: religious iconography, technology, popular culture and BDSM.
Van Looveren uses materials such as silicone, wax and metal, symbolising this transformation and transition. CONFESSIONS is an excellent opportunity to discover the intense world of Stef Van Looveren.
